This pattern shows you how to make a poseable tarantula with wire in the legs. Inclued are directions for a Mexican Red Knee and Cobalt Blue Tarantula. There will be frequent color changes, so be familiar with how to change colors in single crochet. I will also provide color guides for the legs, carapace, and abdomen. Each of the rounds shown will be worked entirely in one color for a striping effect. There’s also a video on how to attach the wired legs and where to bend each leg for the best look.

This tarantula is a bit bigger than life-size with a body length of 6 inches and a stretched-out leg span of a whopping 16 inches.

In Hopi mythology, the “Spider Grandmother” or “Gogyeng Sowuhti” was the original creator of life. With her web, she spun all things into existence, creating lesser gods and mankind itself. Spiders have been depicted as wise beings or tricksters throughout the ages and used in many teachable fables around the world. There are also some cultures that believe textile crafts such as weaving, knitting, crocheting, and basket-weaving came from the spiders.

The colors needed for the Mexican Red Knee are:
Grey Heather

The colors needed for the Cobalt Blue Tarantula are:
