When I heard of the return of my friend Connie’s cancer, I was beginning Aroha Knit’s Initiate Design challenge. I wanted to create something for her that would physically wrap her in my love and prayers. The first step of the design process is to look for ideas, to create an inspiration board. My mind was drawn to the numerous photos that she had posted of her lovely home of Cuenca. Each photo reminded me of a postcard.
This crescent shaped shawl uses short row inserts to provide interest and movement. As you knit, your eyes will take in the striping clouds and mountains. The terra-cotta rooftops frame the beautiful blue domes of the Inmaculada Concepcion Cathedral. An evening of fireworks against the mountains bring the end of your perfect day (there are always fireworks in Cuenca). Connie has traversed through her favorite places in Cuenca wrapped in her shawl. Her photos have added the right touch to this pattern.
There are two sections of short row knitting in this shawl. In these sections you will gradually move across the shawl, expanding the number of stitch pattern repeats.
You can download the end of row stitch chart from the Ravelry page.
