Posy Slip
Interweave SKU: EP2077
Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Spring 2009:
Joanne Krantz masses simple Irish crochet rose motifs along the front of the Posy Slip for a decadently rich, sweetly old-fashioned feel. Knitted in the round in a daisy slip-stitch pattern that drapes but does not sag, the dress is simply shaped by changing needle sizes. A lustrous silk looks delicate but gives the fabric surprising strength. Handpainted, shifting color moves across the fabric and gives dimension to the flower motifs. An unexpectedly deep back neck is edged with clustered roses.
Finished Size: 31¼ (33¼, 37½)“ bust circumference and 32¾ (35, 39½)” hip circumference about 7” below waist. Dress shown measures 33¼“ bust, modeled with about 1” negative ease.
Yarn: Artyarns Silk Pearl (100% silk; 170 yd [155 m]/50 g): #2269 lilac, 11 (12, 14) skeins.
Needles: Sizes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 (3.25, 3.5, 3.75, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, and 6 mm): 32” circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Markers (m); removable markers or waste yarn; row counter; stitch holders; size E/4 (3.5 mm) crochet hook; tapestry needle.
Additional Gauge: For daisy st worked in the rnd: 26¾ sts and 24 rows = 4” on size 8 needle; 29¼ sts and 27 rows = 4” on size 7 needle; 30¼ sts and 27¼ rows = 4” on size 6 needle; 30¾ sts and 32 rows = 4” on size 5 needle; 31½ sts and 33¾ rows = 4” on size 4 needle; 32 sts and 35½ rows = 4” on size 3 needle. For daisy st worked in rows: 31 sts and 28 rows = 4” on size 5 needle.
Notes:
- The lower body of the dress is worked in the round to the start of the back V-neck shaping, then worked back and forth in rows to the shoulders. Hip, waist, and bust shaping are achieved by changing needle size.
- To customize the fit, divide the stitches onto two circular needles or holding strings and try on the dress as you work. Change needle size more or less often, or when the piece reached different lengths, in order to adapt to your individual body type. The round and row gauges are measured with swatches lying flat, and measurements shown on the schematic are with the dress laid flat. As the dress is worn, the fabric will stretch under its own weight and become longer than the gauges would indicate and what is shown in the schematic. Therefore, the directions call for working a specific number of rounds or rows in each section. Using a row counter is strongly recommended.
- Allow the dress to hang for several hours or overnight as noted, to ensure that you are satisfied with the new stretched length, before proceeding to the following section.
- Work all decreases one stitch in from edges.
- When working in rows, maintain the pattern by centering each three-stitch daisy directly over the knit stitch separating two daisies in the pattern row below. if there are not enough stitches to work a complete three-stitch daisy, work the daisy stitches in stockinette instead.
