1) Basketweave style (basketweave on front, stockinette on back)
In the round- cast on 80, join the round (be careful not to twist)
Round 1 - knit 4, purl 4 repeat from 4 times, knit 64
Round 2 - knit 4, purl 4 repeat from 4 times, knit 8, purl 52, knit 4
Round 3 - same as Round 1
Round 4 - same as Round 2
Round 5 - purl 4, knit 4, repeat from 4 times, purl 4, knit 60
Round 6 - purl 4, knit 4, repeat from 4 times, purl 4, knit 4, purl 52, knit 4
Round 7 - same as Round 5
Round 8 - same as Round 6
Repeat until desired length.
Using a straight needle, take one loop from the round and put onto the straight. Then grab a loop from the other side and put onto the straight. Repeat going back and forth between sides until all loops are on the straight needle.
Cast on 12 stitches. Bind off 12 stitches. Bind off K3Tog (1 from the new tail, 1 couple) twice. Bind remaining off with K2Tog.
Tapestry stitch open edge. Sew in all tails

Round 2 - knit 2, purl 1, knit 1, repeat from18 times, knit 4, purl 36, knit 2
Using a size 8 straight needle, take one loop from the round and put onto the straight. Then grab a loop from the other side and put onto the straight. Repeat going back and forth between sides until all loops are on the straight needle.
Cast on 12 stitches. Bind off 12 stitches. Bind off K3Tog (1 from the new tail, 1 couple) twice. Bind remaining off with K2Tog.
