I recently found these wonderful potholders in my mums stash. They once were a present from my long deceased grandmother Anna and must be about 40-45 years old.

Despite their old age, I find the pattern really beautiful and absolutely timeless. This is why I retraced the pattern and wrote it down for you.

The pattern includes pictures as well as a chart of the pattern. The title picture shows my work (colors 113 and 130). The other pictures show my grandmothers original (colors close to 240 and 436). The colors I chose, come real close to the original, but of course you can be creative and crochet in your very own favourite colors. All you need is one dark main color and a matching bright color for contrast.

If you know the basics about crocheting and are able to crochet with two colors in one row you should not have any problems. The pattern is quite easy. You’ll be able to follow real quickly without having to look at the pattern much.

You need - Cotton yarn in the following colours:
purple (hyazinth 240 or violett 113) about 50 g
beige (ivory 436 or 130 crème) about 30 g
( ) = Schachenmayr Catania 100 % Cotton - 50 g = 125 m / 1.75 oz = 137 yds
crochet hook: 3 mm

Diese wunderschönen Topflappen habe ich vor kurzem beim Stöbern bei meiner Mutter gefunden. Sie waren mal ein Geschenk meiner längst verstorbenen Großmutter Anna und müssten so um die 40-45 Jahre alt sein.

Ungeachtet dieses hohen Alters finde ich das Muster unheimlich schön und absolut zeitlos. Deshalb habe ich es jetzt nachkonstruiert und für euch aufgeschrieben.

Die Anleitung beinhaltet Fotos sowie ein Diagramm des Musters. Auf dem Titelbild seht ihr meine Arbeit (Farben 113 und 130), auf den anderen Bildern ist das Original meiner Großmutter zu sehen (Farben ähnlich 240 und 436). Die Farben, die ich gewählt habe, kommen dem Original sehr nahe. Natürlich könnt ihr hier aber auch kreativ sein und die Topflappen in eurer ganz eigenen Lieblingsfarbe gestalten. Ihr benötigt eine dunkle Hauptfarbe und eine möglichst helle Kontrastfarbe.

Wer die Grundkenntnisse im Häkeln beherrscht und mit zwei Farben in einer Reihe häkeln kann, sollte keine Schwierigkeiten haben. Das Muster ansich ist recht einfach. Man kommt sehr schnell hinein, ohne noch groß auf die Anleitung schauen zu müssen.
