Potholders Autumn
These potholders are a colorful knit that can be useful in the kitchen or for decoration only. If you are new on multi-color knitting this can be a good start. The most challenging part is knitting with cotton yarn and the long gaps between one of the colors are used. If you master a technique for dealing with these gaps you can knit practically anything within stranded knitting.
I chose to make 3 diagrams inspired by autumn - a pumpkin, a mushroom and a leaf. The leafy potholder are in use in my kitchen, and they will be there for the rest of the autumn.
The potholders are knitted with cotton yarn held double, and you need 3 skeins in main color and 2 skeins in the contrasting color making 2 potholders. I recommend knitting one skein from both ends in each color.
The techniques used in this pattern:
- long tail cast on
- stranded knitting/ multi-color knitting
- long gaps between colors
- regular bind off
- crochet an edge as a finish
If you want them to be extra padded, you can cut fabric that fits in cotton and add it before closing the work.
Happy autumn knitting!
