Power of Four
Unity | Equality | Love | Humanity
The bridges we build to connect
The distance that makes us forget
Hate dividing us, love reminding us
Of our shared humanity
In these uncertain times, when people are afraid, we need a little light and brightness in our lives. We need to connect and regain our power, we need to feel safe and united. This is what it all comes down to four things, the braids: unity, equality, love and humanity.
The base of this hat represents the world, all the things, good and bad that are going on right now. The cables represent us, the women of this world, how we come together to light up the dark times and fight for our rights! Together we are stronger and we will change the world!
This pattern is test knitted and tech edited by some wonderful women!
Yarn:
Main color (MC): 80 g of Aran weight. Original sample uses Natura: Lauri Sukkalanka, color: black, 199 m (218 y)/100 g.
Contrast color (CC): 25 g of DK weight. Original sample uses Bits & Hobs Yarns & Fibers: Organic Merino, color: Sourz, 225 m (246 y)/100 g.
Needles:
40 cm (16 inch) circular needle or a set of 5, 20 cm (8 inch) Double Pointed Needles, 5 mm (US 8) or to obtain gauge.
Gauge:
18 sts and 26 rows = 10 cm (4 inches) in stockinette stitch, knitted flat.
Notions:
1 Stitch Marker
4 Stitch Holders, different color to identify each braid
Tapestry needle
Notes:
Each braid needs its own ball of yarn. 10 meters (11 yards) should be enough. If it’s not, use the Magic Knot (Knotions tutorial, link included in the pattern) to add more yarn, just don’t cut the yarn ends, hide them inside the i-cord.
Braids:
Worked in i-cord with CC
One i-cord rnd: K4, sl the sts back to left-hand needle.
Braid 1 is the first one, braid 2 the second one, braid 3 the third one and braid 4 the fourth one.
The braids are attached to the hat with 4 rnds, twisting the MC yarn from the hat around the CC at the beg of every rnd, just as you would do a color change when knitting intarsia (Purl Soho Tutorial, link included in the pattern).
