An easy “sampler” cowl using fun colors dyed by Northern Bee Studio. We used the Sturdy Sock one hank (400 yds) for our Main Color and 6 45 yd mini hanks for the contrasting colors. Kits are available at Harriet & Alice yarn shop on-line or in store.

Inspiration
I designed this cowl in early 2020, with a Decades inspiration. The decade our shop received was 2010-2019. As I started thinking about the most recent decade I started thinking about all the Movements and Protests that had occurred. For color inspiration we used the “All Are Welcome” sign that is in our window, an organization that was also born in this past decade.

Movements of Inspiration from 2010-2019:
Occupy Wall Street
March for Our Lives, Moms Demand Action
Women’s March and #MeToo
Black Lives Matter
LGBTQ+ Rights, legalization of Marriage
Standing Rock, Indigenous Rights
Dreamers/Dream Act
Climate Strike, Environmental Activism
Voting Rights
Student Activism

We are also very sensitive to all the events that have occurred throughout our community, country and world after the murder of George Floyd. I not only live in Minneapolis, I grew up in a first ring suburb just blocks from Minneapolis. My hope is that we as a collective community continue to do the work to make change, to fight systemic Racism and to develop a society that is truly Equal for ALL. This is what the movements were about during our decade of inspiration and this is what the demonstrations of 2020 have been about.
