Practice Socks
Available in two versions: normal 4-page version for easy reading, and small 2-page version for saving trees!
Are you looking for an introduction to knitting two socks at a time, toe-up, with magic loop? Look no further! Before you try an adult-sized pair of socks with fingering-weight yarn, learn the basics with a toddler-sized pair in DK yarn. They make a great weekend project and travel easily - especially if you knit them both from a single center-pull ball!
If you choose to make a bigger pair for yourself, you’ll get a nice cozy pair of thick boot socks or slipper socks.
The heel includes gusset increases, a short-row turn, and a gusset pick-up rather than a heel flap. The toe is cast on with Judy’s Magic Cast-On, and the cuff is bound off with Jenny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off. Links to video tutorials are included for these techniques.
Three basic sizes are provided. Length can easily be adjusted by adding or removing rows from the foot. Width can be changed by adding or removing increases at the toe, but the heel makes this tricky - don’t be afraid of a little trial and error!
