This is the fourth pattern in the Traveling Stitches Sock Club

The Rough Blazing Star is a prairie flower that’s native to North America. It’s known for its alternating purple heads or buds. These socks were designed to mimic the purple buds using twisted stitches. The abundant amount of ribbing makes these socks a stretchier and more comfortable fit.

Gauge:

7.5 stitches/per inch using 2.25 mm circular needles.

Sizing:

1 (2,3) - which fits a foot circumference of (unstretched) 8 inches (8.50 inches, 9 inches around).

When choosing a size, focus on your foot circumference rather than the length of your foot.

Yarn:

The sample shown is made with Malabrigo Ultimate Sock Yarn in Pascal. This is a 4ply made from superwash wool with nylon. 75% Superwash Wool 25% Nylon. 100g/skein. I would lean toward the lighter colors for the best results in showing the pattern.

Cascade Heritage would be a good substitute and has solid colors which would be good for showing the stitch definition.

Materials:

  • US 1 (2.25) circular knitting needles (or size needed to get gauge), I recommend at least 32 inches (my preferred length). You can substitute DPNs and 9-inch circulars for circulars as well and I’ll show you how.
  • 100 grams of fingering-weight sock yarn.
  • Stitch marker or locking stitch marker (optional).
  • Ruler or measuring tape.
  • Darning needle.
  • Cable needle.
  • Sock blockers to photograph your socks once you’re done! (optional).
