Note: in the pattern I recommended the crochet chain provisional cast on. I now prefer the crochet provisional cast on where the stitches are placed right on the knitting needle. I highly recommend this one over the chain method.
As a lover of traditional Fair Isle type sweaters, yet finding that many of these beautiful patterns have distinct horizontal striping, I decided to interpret some of these lovely motifs in a manner that stripes vertically, thus being flattering on all body types.

This sweater is a stranded knit, with many elements of the traditional Fair-isle style of knitting. It is recommended for a 2-ply Shetland-style yarn (fingering weight). Steeks are an important part of the construction. The trims are all in corrugated ribbing. It departs from the traditional by being knit sideways, and by the optional insertion of slash pockets (instructions not included in pattern, please contact me if interested). A sleeveless vest option has been added—no yarn requirements available for the vest as the vest has not yet been knit.

July 22, 2016: I have added Needless2know’s project photos. She has made some interesting changes to the sleeves to change the orientation of the pattern. I am working on revising the pattern to incorporate a similar sleeve, so there will then be two sleeve options. I am very excited about her change to the pattern.

Since this pattern is very detailed, the page breaks have been planned so that all pages do not have to be printed. When purchasing the pattern be sure to download both PDF’s--one consists of helpful charts.

It is hard to state the exact yardage for the yarns since it calls for 23 shades, many of these use only part of a ball.
