Prancing Pony Mittens
When I was a kid, my parents came home from a trip with a recording of Nicol Williamson reading The Hobbit. I’d never heard such an amazing thing in my life and it started my lifelong love of Tolkien. When the first Lord of the Rings movie was released in 2001 I couldn’t wait to see this fantastical world brought to life. One of my favourite scenes is in The Prancing Pony pub, when Frodo and his companions are waiting to meet with Gandalf. They’ve experienced a bit of a scare on the road but it’s here where they have a little frivolity before the true evil is revealed to them. And how could I resist the famous line ‘It comes in pints?!’
These mittens are knit with a Latvian braid cuff and an afterthought thumb. This pattern includes directions and charts for 2 sizes 8 (9) inches/20 (22.5) cm circumference. Light fingering and US1 (2.25mm) needles are used but additional sizes can be achieved by using smaller or larger needles and lighter or heavier sock yarns.
