Pretty Parasol
A gorgeous parasol, ready to take with you to the beach or on a summer picnic. Classic beach stripes are combined with filet pattern of crosses expands outwards from the centre, providing you with dappled shade wherever you go.
The pattern is created in eight wedges which are sewn together to create the parasol cover. It uses a DK weight yarn, held double, with a 6mm hook.
I’ve used Stylecraft Naturals Organic Cotton, in the following colours:
Sea Green x 3 balls (approx. 133g)
Poppy x 4 balls (approx. 171g)
Carrot x 4 balls (approx. 166g)
Amethyst x 2 balls (approx. 80g)
Gypsum x 10 balls (approx. 485g)
You will also need:
• A large button, approx 1.5cm/1” in diameter
• A needle for sewing in ends
• A stick umbrella with eight spokes and a canopy of 102cm/40.2”
Gauge - 3 rows of 7dc = 5.25x5cm.
If you match this gauge, you should produce an umbrella cover that will fit a stick umbrella with a canopy of 102cm/40.2”. Umbrellas do vary, however, and you may wish to adjust up or down a hook size, according to your particular umbrella frame. Be aware that there is quite a lot of stretch in this pattern; if in doubt, err on the side of slightly too small, rather than slightly too large.
This pattern is available for free, but if you like the pattern, it would be great if you could make a contribution to charity. You can read about the particular charities I am suggesting here in my blogpost about the pattern.
