“Like the generations of leaves, the lives of mortal men. Now the wind scatters the old leaves across the earth, now the living timber bursts with the new buds and spring comes round again. And so with men: as one generation comes to life, another dies away.”
― Homer, The Iliad
Priam’s Treasure is a simple stranded colorwork hat which knits up very quickly in bulky weight yarn. It bears a plaited ribbing which lends the nostalgia of ancient Greek warrior garb, and a trailing vine as similar to what may be found upon the ruins of obsolete civilizations. Small flower buds adorn the vine to indicate that though a glorious society may have been lost to us, new life will ever find a way. These flower bud bobbles are optional and the pattern expresses instruction how to compensate if in want of their removal for a true unisex hat. The hat itself is double in thickness due to the colorwork and denser fabric created by smaller needles, rendering a very cozy accessory to keep you or your loved ones warm on the coldest of winter days.
King Priam was the ruler of Troy in the tale of the Iliad as told by Homer, and it was King Priam’s legendary treasure which had scholars and adventurers alike searching for the lost city until its location was discovered in the 1800s.
