Princess Leia's Hoth Snow Vest
The Empire Strikes Back finds the Rebels deep in hiding on the ice planet of Hoth. With few signs of life, extremely cold temperatures, and a desolate landscape, the Rebels outfit themselves in white clothing to remain camouflaged against the snow in the event of an attack. In this classic sequence, Leia wears a quilted white vest over an insulated jumpsuit. Both practical and warm, she wears these clothes until the Rebels reach Cloud City.
Worked seamlessly back and forth from the bottom up, this iconic textured vest is covered with a simple diamond lattice pattern on the bottom half. The top half is worked in stockinette, with the shoulders joined using a three-needle bind off. Pick-up-and-knit garter border bands create an edging on both front openings. Stitches are then picked up and worked in garter stitch with short-row shaping for the collar.
