Princess Of Egypt Cowl
This pattern is for a ribbed cowl inspired by the jewelled collar worn by the royalty of ancient Egypt. Worked inside out from the top down, this cowl has a turtleneck or a low neck option. The rib widens to flare out at the base of the neck. There are two length options: a short length that covers just the neck; or a long length that also covers the shoulders.
Size
Small (Large). The finished circumference, at the narrowest point, is
36 (39.5)cm (14.5 (15.75)in).
Materials
Worsted or aran weight yarn. Wool is recommended.
Turtleneck, long length - 300 (330)m (328 (361)yds)
Turtleneck, short length - 190 (210)m (208 (230)yds)
Low neck, long length - 210 (230)m (230 (252)yds)
Low neck, short length - 100 (110)m (109 (120)yds)
The cowls pictured used Rico Design Essentials Soft Merino Aran and Malabrigo Worsted.
Equipment
40cm (16in) 4.5mm (US7) circular needle or needle size to match gauge
80cm (32in) 4.5mm (US7) circular needle (long length only) or needle size to match gauge
1 stitch marker
yarn needle
Gauge
25sts and 30rnds = 10cm (4in) square on 4.5mm (US7) needles worked in (k1, p2) rib in the round, unstretched.
You will need to be able to work in the round on circular needles, knit, purl, make 1 left, make 1 right and make 1 purlwise.
