Priscilla's Vine Afghan Strip
This mystery pattern from 1918 Priscilla Cotton Knitting Book, p. 47, had no image to work with but it was worth knitting up and rediscovering! This version of an old favorite has a central vine with symmetrical half-vines on either side. The leaves are formed pointing down but you can rotate the strip to point the leaves upward as in the photos.
At gauge, these instructions make a 6” wide afghan strip but any block-able thread/yarn will work.
For an afghan strip, a few knit rows at the beginning and end of the strip can be worked or any beginning and ending that matches the rest of your afghan. There are 12 pattern rows with the wrong side rows mostly purling across.
Skills needed: long-tail cast on, slip, knit, purl, yarn over, yarn over twice, SKP (slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over knit stitch), k2tog, p2tog and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.
8 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make about 12 rows (1 inch) of a 49-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
