Probably Magic
Sometimes you just need rainbows in your life! This past birthday I decided it was one of those days and to finally do something with the Rainbow Felici I had been preciously guarding in my stash for years. It took me 8 tries to make the self-striping yarn work with a colourwork chart, but it was worth it!
Probably Magic is a toe-up stranded colourwork pattern with an afterthought heel. Instructions for a 70 st sock (relaxed foot circumference approximately 19.5cm/7.75”) are included, as well as instructions on adding stitches to the leg to accommodate a widening calf. I have used Knit Picks Felici and have explained how to make it work in this pattern, but I cannot guarantee it will work with every self-striping yarn. A good rule of thumb would be to have an even number of colours and the stripes must be of equal size. Of course you can also use leftover solid sock yarn in any number of colours or just two contrasting yarns. The possibilities are endless! Feel free to adjust your stitch count to get a sock that fits you.
Yarn amounts for the pictured socks:
Rainbow Felici - 77g/318yds/291m
Black Heritage - 17g/75yds/69m
There are 3 files in this listing:
Probably Magic Socks.pdf is the written pattern including charts for the 70 stitch toe-up sock. The other two files contain other versions of the chart - one with the basic chart, and one with the chart surrounded by extra chart space so you can fill squares and create charts that are as many columns as you require.
This pattern has not been test knit. If you find any errors or issues feel free to send me a message!
Fun Fact: the name of this pattern comes from a lyric in the song Rainbow Connection.
