Progressions
Progressions is an asymmetric shawl with short row petals that grow as the pattern progresses. The perfect pattern for that gorgeous skein of fingering with the complementary mini you have just waiting to be something beautiful!
Main colour - 100g fingering
Contrast colour - 20g fingering
This pattern can also be knit using a 470 yard (430 m) gradient. To do so, wind 10g from either end of the gradient into separate balls. (total 20g) These will replace the CC in the pattern as written.
Start knitting the pattern as written. When you get to the first CC petal, use the 10g ball you cut off the opposite end of the yarn you started knitting with (ie. if your gradient goes from dark to light and you started with the dark end, use the yarn you cut from the light end to start knitting your petals).
Continue using the same CC yarn until either you’ve used all 10g, or the MC and CC are getting too similar in colour. (most likely you can knit the first 3 or 4 groups of petals with the first CC, and then switch for the remaining. If you have enough yarn and want to add extra petals, I recommend knitting the first 4 sets of petals in the first 10g ball)
If you want to use all of your MC yarn, you can either continue in the main pattern until you have used all your yarn (resulting in a deeper band of colour at the finished edge), or you can knit additional petals. To add petals, knit 12 rows in the Main Pattern. Then knit another Petal 5. For the third petal in the group, knit 106 stitches instead of 90 in SR1. For the fourth petal in the group, knit 126 stitches instead of 110 in SR1.
