Proud Mary
The Story
Proud Mary. Two versions of same classic. Maybe you’re a fan of Creedence’s recording, or you might prefer Tina Turner’s. Both keep you rollin’ on the river:)
The Options
Proud Mary’s Pullover comes with two options (in 2 separate pdfs): A top-down raglan-sleeve version, and a top-down simultaneous set-in sleeve version.
The simultaneous set-in sleeve option is constructed with a method first described by Barbara Walker, and I’ve used this technique in several patterns such as Girl on Fire, ObLaDi, and Valine. It requires the use a of a few short rows (for shaping the shoulders) as well as picking up a small number of sts at the top of the sleeve cap. A photo tutorial is included in the pattern to allow you to check your work as you go.
Both versions of the sweater are included in the pattern, and they are identical to each other below the underarm. The same stunning cable pattern graces the front of each, and both have a cozy cowl that will keep you warm no matter how long the winter may be.
Shaping of the bodice is accomplished along princess lines to allow for maximum flexibility in modifying the sweater to suit your personal fit preferences.
Due to the nature of the different construction methods, the set-in sleeve version and raglan version will differ a bit in the armscye length as well as the cowl. Please note that the cowl will be affected by yarn choice and tension--while I recommend using the larger sized needle for the cowl (to prevent it from becoming too much like a turtleneck), if you tend to knit your k2 p2 ribbing loosely, consider using the smaller needle (or dpns) for the cowl.
