Proudfoot
On the day they made Gay Marriage legal, we celebrated by driving to the beach and Henchman got down on one knee. So adorable we were on the local news. So invisible they thought we were Allies.
To mark the occasion, and to Flag my little Indie Dyer booth, I knit a Double Happiness Sock and painted Rainbow sock blanks every year. During the Women’s March when I couldn’t travel, I designed Pussyfoot; a sock to stay up in boots, perfect for marching, with a pun about being stretchy and durable.
I can’t do anything about the anti-trans panic spreading across the nation, but I can do this; a Progress Pride Flag sock pattern, with profits split between Trans Lifeline and the Trevor Project.
Thank you for joining me in flagging your support for all of us, in all our colors. Feel free to add your own flag colors in the heel.
Stretchy and durable, Proudfoot is knit Toe Up in Slip Stitch Rib, with a Riverbed Heel Expansion for a snug ‘heel flap and gusset’ fit.
In the spirit of Stash Busting, I’ve listed colors to look for in your stash, not specific yarns to buy. I used sock yarns with 2, 3 or 4 plies, most with 20-25% nylon. All sizes use less than 10g of any color, so mini skeins and unicorn tails work great.
If you’re squeaking through on scraps: you’ll need at least 8g, 32yds (30m) for each Rainbow color, and 5g, 20yds (18m) of each of colors of the Progress Pride Flag.
