Knit a cozy, functional headband with thick brioche rib and stockinette! This headband is worked in the round for a double layer of fabric. Wear the thin part forward or back.

This plain beige version is made from a yarn that knits up like a sportweight for me (O-Wool Classic 2-Ply), so heavy, soft sockweight yarns or light sportweights make good substitutes.

Gauge:
Gauge is 6 sts and 8 rounds over 1”/2.54cm of lightly blocked stockinette, worked in the round. Please be sure to check your gauge.

Measurements:
As shown, this headband measures about 18”/45cm circumference (relaxed) and 4”/10cm deep over the brioche rib. To customize the fit, adjust the brioche ribbing section’s length—but please keep in mind that you’ll want 2-4”/5-10cm of negative ease.

Materials:

  • 200-250 yards of O Wool Classic 2-Ply Merino or Malabrigo Yarn Mechita
  • 1 set of DPNs in US3/3.25mm or size needed for gauge
  • 1 spare circular needle (used as flexible stitch holder/needle while grafting) in same size or one size down
  • Tapestry needle
  • crochet hook, size B/2.25mm or size suited to yarn
  • smooth yarn for provisional cast-on
  • optional: removable stitch markers
