Prymachenko Shawl
by Martha Wood
Inspired by Ukrainian folk artist Maria Prymachenko (1908-1997) this bottom up triangle shawl incorporates both colours and images (through stitch patterns) found in Maria’s artwork. Prymachenko’s art falls into the category of Naïve art, which is visual art created by a person who lacks the formal training and/or education professional artists receive. I relate to this as a new knitwear designer with no formal training in textile or knitwear design.
