I used a bulky yarn like Paton classic roving and used the bobble stitch. (http://www.craftstylish.com/item/2838/how-to-crochet-the-…). I found my yarn at a thrift store so I can’t identify it but the texture was like a roving yarn, but it was smaller than bulky.

I measured the size I wanted for the cowl and with the gauge and made a kind of scarf with it. At the end I sewed both end.
