I live in New Zealand and on a road trip to Wellington (Our Capital City), my friend and I were transporting our granddaughters to Wellington to gymnastics competitions. It was an early morning adventure as we were driving 2 hours to our destination.

We were both struck by the light shining through the clouds and onto the hills (puke), and the way that the curves of the hills were shaped by the light. At the same time, Lenna and I were having a korero (discussion) about our native language and the use of the right words for what we were seeing. It is from this that the inspiration of this pattern came.

It brings together the conversation (korero) and yet who we were as a whanau (wider family) going to Wellington to compete in gymnastics competitions.

The togetherness that was wrapped around us that day was amazing. I trust that anyone who knits and wears this headband will look to the hilly range (Puke Puke) and know that they can conquer the summit.

This is a lovely quick knit, simple but beautiful, featuring lace and stocking stitch, with an edge of garter stitch and slipped stitches to ensure a neat edging. Worked with an easy provisional cast on so that it looks seamless.

Suitable for a beginner knitter.

A great knit to be gifted, a late minute present or if in a rush or a mindless knit. It could also be used as a scrunchie if wanted.
