When someone loves you, it’s like having a blanket all round your heart. --Author, Helen Fielding, book Bridget Jones’s Diary, 1996
A baby blanket, a car seat cover, a playmat for a toddler, a lap cover for the family or a one-person blanket for your young adult, this blanket can be so many things. Choose any plaid concept and play with color. The Tartans are always a fun go to for color. Or choose a family or clan Tartan if you have one: Black Stewart, Buchanan, Blackwatch plaid; Buffalo plaid; Dress Gordon, MacKenzie, MacDonald, and MacLeod of Lewis, just to name a few. School colors are always a perfect way to show your school spirit. You could match a nursery theme or just make a neutral blanket for use everywhere in the home. Mix it up and have a fun experience with knitting and weaving combined.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a checklist pattern, each row is written out for ease of tracking your progress, however, this does make a written pattern significantly longer. Please review the pattern before deciding how much to print out. There are 2 specific checklist sections: small blanket and large blanket - only print what you need.
The original sample (2010) was knit with Paternayan wool (178 yds/100 g) colors: Two skeins each of CC1 purple #321 CC2 blue #592, CC3 green #633 and one skein CC4 orange #810.
New Samples were knit with Brown Sheep Prairie Spun DK (256 yds/100 g) held double in colors: Blue Sample: Denim Jeans (640 yds) Swallowtail Butterfly (643 yds) Dewdrop (563 yds) and Half & Half (248 yds) with 6” fringe on each end.
Red Sample: Red Barn (1231 yds) Blackbird (1181 yds) Swallowtail Butterfly (1125 yds) Half & Half (870 yds) with 4” fringe on each end.
NOTE: Gauge does not have to be exact since this is not a fitted garment, however, blanket will turn out smaller or larger depending on your variance.
NOTIONS: one 5” weaving needle (this makes the weaving infinitely easier) A link is provided in the pattern.
