Purchasing Prawns (Or Shrimp)
You’re expecting company and it’s high time to place your prawn order for the dinner party tomorrow night. Each prawn is big and juicy, and takes less than an hour to knit up, with an additional half hour required for finishing. Perfect as a stand-alone, quirky novelty gift or an expansion of an existing play food collection. Using heavy worsted weight yarn on size US 6 needles yields a critter that measures about 3” x 2”.
NOTIONS:
Pair US 6 / 4 mm knitting needles (opt.)
Sewing Needles (small and large)
MATERIALS:
5g Heavy Worsted Wt. Main Color
3g Light Worsted Wt. Accent Color
PolyFill or Scrap Yarn for Stuffing
Black thread or Small black beads for Eyes
Sewing thread (optional)
GAUGE:
Different size needles and yarn can be substituted. Gauge is not important for this project. Just make sure that the fabric knits up tightly to prevent the stuffing from bleeding through.
SKILLS:
Basic knitting technique, with simple increases, decreases, short rows, and seaming. Ladder and Mattress stitches helpful for sewing up.
