Pyjama Party
Add a splash of color to the spring or summer with this new fun to knit design, fresh from the knitting needles of Ursa Major Knits! As we wave goodbye to winter why not mark the changing of the seasons with this versatile and vibrant pattern. It takes inspiration from the exquisite explosions of color found in the stunning spring flowers - nature’s fireworks celebrating the triumph of life! Hope springs eternal!
Pyjama Party was originally designed for fingering weight to create a wonderful wrap for spring or autumn, enough to keep you cozy if it is still a little chilly in the evening hours. You can also knit it in lace weight if you would like a more decorative accessory or sport weight for a warmer, winter outfit. As such, you will find three different sizes: small, medium and large to make Pyjama Party suitable for any yarn weight.
You will need two contrasting yarns. Two solids, two semi solids, one solid combined with a color gradient, or even two color gradients will all look fine. Whether you choose a stark or a mild contrast, Pyjama Party will work as long as you can distinguish between the two yarns on most parts. Don’t worry if some shades of your two color gradients are identical, even if the different modules won’t be distinguishable it will add an interesting effect of the pattern fading in and out.
Pyjama Party is a modular knit and you will join the modules as you go. All instructions are provided in written and charted form. You will find graphics that explain the architecture and how to join the modules, plus ample photo tutorials on the techniques. This makes Pyjama Party a seamless and feasible project for most knitters.
For the original design I used XL Wunderkleckse by Schoppel 920y /800m of each color. You will also find pictures a Pyjama Party knitted with two very long color gradients from Wollbonbon. They are really fun to use. You can even use two balls of the same colorway and start on opposite ends of the color scale. If you need more inspiration for combinations try Crystal Palace Mini Mochi or Sausalito paired with Mini Solid; Noro Hansono or Silk Garden Sock Solo paired with Silk Garden, Silk Garden Fine or Flower Bed; Schoppel Wool Finest with Zauberball 100 or Zauberball Crazy; Wollmeise Pure semi solid with multi colored; Lana Grossa Meilenweit, Schoppel Zauberball 6, Schoppel Edition 3, Nordlys by Viking of Norway, Lang Mille Colori, Poeoms Sock, Amitola by Louisa Harding, and many many more. Of course, you can always de-stash and combine various colored leftovers you have lying around with one solid yarn.
Happy knitting!
