QUEEN AMIDALA:
Designed by Elin Melchior
Expresses the beauty of a simple Art Deco motif. Something in the pattern reminded me of a character by L. Frank Baum named Ozma; the illustrations of her are reminiscent of the formal costumes of Queen Amidala. So, that is the genus of the name. The scarf is knit using the double-sided knitting technique. The beauty of the gradient from Freia Yarns enhances the simple design. I think it is a great match.

YARN:
This scarf is designed to be knit in fingering weight yarn. The featured yarn is a gorgeous, one ply merino. It shines through the color choices and complexity of the gradient. The pattern is very suitable for other yarns as well.

NEEDLES & GAUGE:
US 3’s/3.25mm needles. I prefer round needles for all my knitting. Straight needles also work.
GAUGE uses US 3’s/3.25mm in Double-Sided knitting, before blocking. 22 stitches and 31 rows to 4 inches.

SIZE: Scarf Size = 67” by 7.75” The scarf can be lengthened or shortened by adjusting the pattern repeats.

NOTIONS:
A yarn sewing needle for tucking in some ends. Markers if desired.

PATTERN ADVANTAGES:
•Charted
•Colors are never carried more than one stitch
•Symmetrical left-right so that you can always read the pattern in the same direction no matter which side you are on.
•Symmetrical up-down so that you can easily read your knitting rather than the chart.

Double-Sided Knitting is a fun and rewarding technique. While it supports all types of designs, the simplicity of this design makes it fun and more approachable for people who are new to the technique.
