Knitted from the top-down, this cozy adult hat is flattering to all faces. Versatile for any winter weather and designed for a secure fit. A very quick knit.

Berroco Lanas Quick (first hat) is almost identical to the yarn I originally used for this hat -- the now discontinued Berroco Peruvia Quick (second hat) -- and a great yarn for this project. You can substitute similar yarns or combinations of yarns as long as you can get 3 sts/inch with whatever you choose. Yarns with a bit of loft give the best results. The pattern takes at least 103 yds.

To knit this hat, you will need 16” or 20” circular needles in both sizes listed, as well as a 5-needle set of size 11 double-pointed needles.

Possible variations: use a fluffy yarn on the purled “short stack” sections for a faux fur look or use contrasting colors or textures on those sections. The fourth hat shown in the photo lineup is knit from Trendsetter Dune paired with a variegated DK-weight yarn for the entire hat. Unfortunately, they reduced the yardage on Dune before it was discontinued, so unless you have an older ball in stash, you would not be able to make this hat from one ball. The last two images are of the original hat which I knit from my handspun -- the crown and edge are my handspun, hand-dyed wool and the “stacks” on the hat are samoyed dog fur that I dyed to match the wool.
