Quilt Cowl
This pattern is inspired by a star quilt block. I tried quilting once. I like knitting better. So this is my compromise. Also, I wanted a project that would use a gorgeous mini skein set that I got from Miss Babs. Yes. I splurged. It was worth it.
Because it is double knit, the scarf is fully reversible with opposite color schemes on each side. In this case, one side is white with colored stars, the other side is colored blocks with white stars. Both sides look great. You can see a video about how I do double knitting here. The only tweak with this pattern is that you will need to change colors once per row. This is done the same way as it is done in fair isle knitting- drop the old color over the top of the new color, pick up the new color, and continue on. Do not be scared of the color changes. You can do it.
You will need light fingering weight yarn and size 2 knitting needles. For this scarf I used 1 skein of Miss Babs Yummy 2 Ply in Plover (400 yds). I only had a bit left, so you might want to buy an additional mini skein unless you love playing Yarn Chicken. You will also need about 80 yards of 6 other colors- I used a Miss Babs Babette Gradient Set in Mojave Parks colorway and had plenty left over. At the time of publishing, this set of colors is sold out. But they have dozens of other gorgeous sets- good luck choosing one! (Or dig through your stash. This is a good stash buster project). The finished model cowl is 7” wide and 53” around.
