Quintessential Lace Scarf
Combination of lace and cable stitches make for a pleasing design in this scarf. Tasseled tapered ends begin the patterns as they branch out to their full display. Beads within the leaf stems on each side add a touch of elegance. Beads are, of course, optional.
The scarf is knit in 2 identical pieces and then grafted together. Instead of trying to match the patterns perfectly with grafting….why fight it! I ended the 2 sections with a pattern of mostly Knit and Purl rows so the piece could be grafted easily and look smooth.
The pattern is a 30 row repeat and length can be adjusted by changing the amount of repeats. You will need 1 more skein for each repeat you add on. Width can not be easily changed.
I added a tassel at each end, of course, this is optional. Good instructions for making a tassel can be found at “How did you make this?” Look for “Perfect tassels every time.”
Materials needed for this project are as follows….
960yds. of Sport Weight yarn. I used Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in the model. #5, 3.75mm Knitting Needles, Cable Needle, Stitch Markers, Tapestry Needle and if using, 200 Beads 6mm., 2mm. hole to accommodate yarn.
Suelilly’s Bead Slider tool is available on Etsy for $3.99, including shipping. A little helping tool I created after numerous fits trying to add small beads to projects. Vinyl coated wire slides the bead onto a stitch, the vee end keeps beads from falling off. Check it out!
This pattern is entirely in both written and charted instructions
