If Mistress Mary, of nursery rhyme fame, were to knit socks, they would be these. Quite contrary to the usual way socks are constructed, these begin by knitting the
leg sideways, back and forth, creating a garden of pretty eyelets all in a row. Fenced in by a cute cable at one end, and sprouting lacey peaks at the other, knitting
these socks will keep you entertained, right down to your bloomin’ toes.

Gauge
27 sts and 40 rows = 4” (10cm) over leg pattern
31 sts and 44 rows = 4” (10cm) over Stockinette stitch

• Sock leg begins with a provisional cast on. The leg is knit flat, and then joined into a tube with a 3-needle bind-off.

• Stitches for the foot are picked up around the straight edge of the leg tube. The foot is then knit in the usual way, with heel flap, heel turn, and gussets.
