Ærø sweater
Inspiration
Last summer I had the chance to go to Ærø, a most beautiful, Danish island. The moment I entered by the ferry, it was like entering into a world of beauty and charm. The atmosphere is so relaxing, time gets a new rhythm - totally stressless.
One of the many things that enchanted me was several lovely yarn-stores! It was hard to leave, but the bag of lovely yarn I brought back home made it a little bit easier.
The yarn bought at Ærø was inspiring, and the project I had in mind was to work a non-stress, simple and beautiful pullover. As relaxing to knit as to wear.
The pattern is tested, it’s totally beginner-friendly and the result is really cozy.
Construction
The pullover is worked top-down and seamlessly.
You start by working the upper yoke with increases at each shoulder (marked out by waste-yarn) and increases towards the front neck. When the shoulders are shaped, you work the upper back and front top-down to underarms, where back and front are joined and work is continued in the round.
The sleeves are worked top-down and in-the-round to bind-off.
The neckline is worked from picked-up and knit sts.
Finishing is limited to weaving in ends.
Sizes.
Finished chest measurements: 91/96/101/109/116/126/133/139/146 cm = 36/38/40/43/46/49.5/52.5/55/57.5”.
The sample is worked in size 2, with approximately 15 cm/6” of positive ease.
I recommend 7.5 cm – 15 cm/3” – 6” of positive ease.
Materials
Yarn: the sample is worked using 2 strands held together of ”Cava” from Garna, in the colour-way Dueblå. This yarn comes in skeins of 25 gr/0.88 oz and 250 m/275 yards. Of this specific yarn to be kept double you need 1650/1750/1920/2190/2430/2600/2890/3030/3300 m = 1800/1910/2095/2390/2650/2835/3150/3600 yards. If you count on working wider sleeves, or adding length you need to calculate for more yarn. I recommend 2 strands off fingering yarn held together, or any yarn in 1 strand that works up to gauge.
Please note that you may use one single strand of a DK weight yarn that works up to gauge.
Needles Size 4 mm/US6 for the stockinette-sections, size 3.5 mm/US4 for the rib-sections.
Gauge
21 sts and 32 rows/rounds in stockinette sts = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”.
