Rail Travel is a 3/4 length sleeve ribbed pullover with textures and stripes. I’ve always enjoyed travelling by rail. The name of the sweater reflects my personal longing, especially during this challenging time, for traveling by rail to visit cities, squares and the countries, for seeing sceneries sweep across outside the train window, for enjoying train knitting, arriving in rail stations and exploring new places.

This is a collaboration with Moondrake Co.

NEEDLES

One 3 mm / US 2½ circular needle, 60 cm / 24” or longer
One 3.25 mm / US 3 circular needle, 60 cm / 24” or longer
One (set) each 3 mm / US 2½ and 3.25 mm / US 3 preferred needles for working sleeves in the round.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

GAUGE

25 sts and 33 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette st with 3.25 mm / US 3 needle, after blocking.
25 sts and 37 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stripe and Rib Pattern with 3 mm / US 2½ needle, after stretching and blocking.

NOTES AND TECHNIQUES

This pullover with stripes and ribbed pattern is first worked flat. The back neck, shoulders and front neck are shaped with German short rows, then the back and front are worked to the underarm. It is then worked top down in the round. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the armhole and worked to ¾-length in the round to the cuff. Finally, stitches are picked up around the neck to complete the neckband in the round.

The fabric around the body and chest, made using a ribbed pattern, is considerably stretchable. The finished measurement around the chest, marked A in the schematic on the next page, is based on the fabric on the body being stretched to the same stitch gauge as the Stockinette stitch fabric on the top of the garment around the shoulders. Add 5-10 cm / 2-4” to your chest measurement to find the size to knit. When worn, the fabric around the body and chest may naturally contract to give less ease, and this is the intended fit.

ポイントおよびテクニック

Rail Travelはボーダーリブ模様のプルオーバー. まず往復編みで編み始めます. 後ろ襟ぐりと肩下がり, 前襟ぐりをドイツ式引返し編みで形作り, 後ろ身頃と前身頃を脇下まで編みます. 身頃をつなげたら輪で裾まで編みます. 袖は袖開きから目を拾って七分の丈まで輪で編みます. 最後に, 襟ぐりから目を拾って縁編みをします.

身頃および胸回りの編地は, リブ模様を用いた伸縮性の高い編地です. 次ページ図のAの胸回り寸法は, リブ模様の編地を身頃上部の肩回りのメリヤス編みと同じゲージまで伸ばした寸法です. サイズは実際の胸回り寸法に5～10 cmを足し, 最も近いサイズを選んで下さい. 身頃および胸回りの編地は着用の際には自然と収縮し, ゆとりが減りますが, これがこのデザインの意図するフィットです.
