Rain Bird Cowl
Rain Bird Cowl is a grab-and-go piece for the winter wardrobe. Wear it around the shoulders as a capelet, draped around the neck as an infinity scarf, or twist to double and wear close to the neck as a cowl. The little feather pattern forms an undulating texture defined by spiraling channels of purl stitches that remind me of the spiral spray of a lawn sprinkler. It looks beautiful on both sides of the fabric and in any type of yarn. The pattern isn’t so literal that it requires solid colors for it to shine. In fact, this pattern really lends itself to the color changes in handpainted yarns.
This pattern is written in three sizes, women’s Small Medium, Large. It is made up of even numbers of multiples of the little feather pattern and is shaped in tiers by alternating decreases in the purl channels. You’ll begin with multiples of 14, and finish with multiples of 12. Feel free to lengthen or shorten this pattern by working more or fewer repeats between decrease rounds.
I also knit this piece in Zen Yarn Garden Serenity Silk and it’s divine.
