This shawl was inspired by the varied and detailed architecture of New Orleans. The center lace panel emulates the ornate wrought-iron railings of balconies, while the vertical eyelet rows mimic this zig-zag movement.
The suggestion of rain as it flows down the shutters and bricks to the street, is throughout.

It has both written and charted directions so you can pick which to follow. It’s a good pattern for the newer knitter who wants to try reading a chart. The lace is easier than it appears and looks quite fancy and elegant.

This shawl uses two different colors, (suggested one semi-solid for the lace, and one variegated for the wings) but could be done in just one color or with two semi-solids. It would be a great way to use up a half-skein (for the lace panel - you’ll need more yardage for the wings).

The striping on the wings is also optional.
