Simple, quick and full of sunshine!
Rainbow Days Blanket got it’s name from our days, weeks and months of isolation due to the pandemic.
Many of us took up new hobbies, baked more, read more and watched endless hours of Netflix just to survive the isolation we all felt.
Some of us also went back to a timeless pastime, ahem.
With so many babies coming in the months ahead I thought it would be fun to design a special baby blanket using what is a symbol of hope and better days ahead, the rainbow.
Babies love primary colours and will love to be wrapped up in such a happy blanket. Also perfect for sitting on with all their toys and playing baby games.
But really this blanket isn’t just for babies. It can be a wonderful lap blanket for anyone who loves rainbow colours and needs a happy warm cuddle blanket. We are never too old to enjoy that feeling.
The design is based on a traditional quilt design called Trip Around The World. I felt it was fitting as the entire world has been affected by the pandemic.
There are three different ways to knit this blanket, squares, strips or Intarsia. Each method has it’s own instructions for you to choose from. I have included a sheet of charts that you can colour in to help you decide if you wish to change the colours or their arrangement,
I have scoured Youtube and found some wonderful helpful tutorials to walk you through mattress stitch, picking up stitches and weaving in ends as you go.
There is also a complete photo tutorial on how to cross your yarn at colour changes if you decide to use the Intarsia method.
This entire blanket only uses knit stitch and the construction is simple enough even for beginners but fun enough for advanced knitters.
Finished measurements: 87 cm/34” wide by 107 cm/42” long.
