The Rainbow Fish scarf was inspired by Linnea Ornstein’s Fasett shawl, which uses short rows to create almond-shaped pools of color. I had one rainbow-colored skein and one cream-colored skein, and I wanted to create a pattern that used roughly the same amount of each yarn and used up the skeins. The resulting scarf reminded me of one of my favorite childhood picture books, Rainbow Fish.

This pattern used Urth Uneek Fingering in Harmony (rainbow gradient) and Urth Harvest Fingering in Ecru (cream). You can use two skeins of any fingering-weight yarn that have the correct yardage (440 yds per skein). The scarf does not need much shaping when blocking, so either synthetic or natural fiber yarn should work fine. The fabric is surprisingly stretchy and squishy!

The scarf is 68’’ long (not including fringe) x 9.5’’ wide.

There are charts in this pattern along with fully written instructions for each chart.
