This scarf is knit with two contrasting balls of colorful yarn. The linen stitch creates a soft and supple fabric that looks like it’s woven, but stretches like a knit.

If you are a beginner and have mastered the knit stitch, then you can probably knit this scarf, since there are no purl stitches. The 2-color cast-on will require a bit of patience, but it’s doable. And the scarf knits up fairly quickly in spite of the fact that only half the stitches are knit on any given row, since it’s knit on size 13 needles.

The second photo shows the reverse side of the scarf. If you use two yarns with high contrast, it creates columns of stitches which look like colorful beads. Or you can use to similar color palettes, for a more painterly feel. I’ve also knit some variations with one solid colored yarn, and one multicolored yarn.

The scarf is 48 inches long, and little over 7 inches wide, so it wraps loosely around your neck at least twice, with plenty of drape to arrange and play with.

You will need two skeins of contrasting yarn, approx 200 yards each, and a size 13 circular needle, at least 32 inches long.
