I used a mix of kitchen cotton yarns to crochet my original project samples (pictured), but this is not ideal. I'm working on a new blanket pattern with this granny square using Cascade 220, and I think that yarn is a much better choice. If you want to make a substantial project like a blanket, worsted weight cotton is a poor choice because the blanket will end up really heavy. Sport weight or lighter yarn would be preferable. It could also be really nice worked in crochet thread if you'd prefer to make a lighter weight bedspread.
