Rainbow Petal Skirt
This skirt is an easy pattern for beginning knitters to tackle. Each of the 7 petal sections are knit flat as individual pieces. When all the petals are complete they are whipped stitched together to form the skirt.
Sizes: XS (19.6in), S (22.4in), M (25.2in), L (28in)
Choose a size that is a couple inches larger than your child’s waist measurement. You will add an elastic band to cinch up the waist to fit exactly.
Yarn: For this project I used Shine Worsted Weight Cotton from Knit Picks. I did each petal in a different color. You will make 7 petals.
For Pixie’s skirt in child medium, I used every last inch of each skein. (Actually I was a bit short on two of the colors and had to bind off one row early - not that you can tell). You will need 1 skein per color for sizes XS and S. It is possible the M can use just 1 skein per color but just to be safe you might want 2 skeins for the M. You will need 2 skeins per petal for the large.
Needles: Size 7 needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 5st per inch in stockinette stitch
Also Needed: 3/4 in wide elastic for waist band
Note: This is a longer skirt. I chose to have it be longer since the side seams only come down part way. If the length seems too long in the smaller sizes, try decreasing the number of rows between increases by 2 for a total of 6 rows for the increase units and decrease every right side row instead of every other row in the decrease units.
