Rainbow Ridge Cowl
The Rainbow Ridge Cowl is the perfect garment to showcase that one special skein of bulky hand-dyed yarn you have no idea what to do with but just couldn’t pass up! Pick up a coordinating skein in a muted solid or heather and let the two yarns work together for a stunning effect! This is a quick and easy piece to knit, suitable for a beginning knitter who wants to try her hand at some new techniques for casting on and off. The provisional cast on and three needle bind off or Kitchener’s stitch grafting method make this cowl a seamless circle with a clean, professional look. The cowl is worked back and forth and can be made on straight or circular needles.
The Rainbow Ridge Cowl is approximately 16 inches in width and 28 inches in length, making it suitable for the average adult. It can easily be altered in length or width to fit any size. The cowl can be worn folded in half lengthwise for extra warmth or at full width and scrunched down for a more relaxed look.
For this pattern you will need one skein of Bartlett Yarns Fisherman Bulky, 100% wool bulky weight yarn (80 yds/4oz per hank) in Plum Heather; OR two balls of Knit Picks Tuff Puff, 100% wool super bulky weight yarn (44 yds/100g per ball) in Fairy Tale #26849. You will also need one skein of Malabrigo Rasta, 100% Merino wool super bulky weight yarn (89 yds/5.3oz per hank) in Arco Iris #866. You will need a pair of Size 15 (10.0 mm) straight or 24” circular needles, and double pointed needles in the same size. Finally, you will need a size L crochet hook for the provisional cast on and finishing work.
This pattern includes written instructions as well as notes on the provisional cast on method, the three-needle bind off and the Kitchener’s stitch grafting method.
