’Rainbow Ripples’ starts as a circle and then becomes a not-entirely-triangular scarf by adding the side wings. The construction eliminates the need to bind off endless long rows at the end. Instead, you always have a relatively small number of stitches on the needles, and they keep getting less and less. The pattern itself is an alternation of two-color stockinette brioche and short rows.

For the optical “wow” impression, one of the two yarns should, of course, have a color gradient. In the original sample shawl I used two fingering weight yarns (400 m / 100 g). For a more summery variant of the shawl you can work with different yarn weights; beautiful effects can be achieved when using mohair or lace yarn for the solid color.

’Rainbow Ripples’ startet als Kreis und wird dann durch Hinzufügen der Seitenflügel zum Nicht-Ganz-Dreieckstuch. Durch die Konstruktion entfällt das Abketten endlos langer Reihen am Ende. Statt dessen hat man immer eine vergleichsweise geringe Maschenzahl auf den Nadeln, die auch noch kontinuierlich abnimmt. Das Muster ergib sich durch den Wechsel von zweifarbigem, rechten Patent und verkürzten Reihen.
Für den optischen Wow-Eindruck sollte natürlich eines der beiden Garne einen Farbverlauf aufweisen. Im ursprünglichen Mustertuch wurden zwei Garne der Stärke Fingering verwendet (400 m / 100 g). Für eine sommerlichere Variante des Tuch kann man aber mit unterschiedlichen Garnstärken arbeiten; schöne Effekte erzielt man, wenn man für das einfarbige Garn Mohair oder Lacegarn verwendet.
