This shawl uses 2 different yarns, and is knitted 2 rows of one color followed by 2 rows of the other color. You start by making a mitered square for the back. The extensions are knitted with a combination of half-linen stitch and garter stitch.

I used a light, sport weight, self-striping yarn. However, you could use any combination of solid, semi-solid, multi-color, or self-striping. It is important that each yarn be of equal weight, and for the 2 colors of yarn to be contrasting.
