Rainbow Sunhats
Rainbow Sunhats are a great thing to make because they are functional and stylish! Add a bit of colour and whimsy to your summer outfits while protecting from the sun.
The small size works well for children and the large size will fit big heads! The adult model in the photos is wearing a middle size and the children models are wearing the small size (they wear age 10 hats).
The stripes and shape are gender neutral so everyone can wear one!
Materials:
Mercerised Cotton DK in rainbow colours. I used…
Red: Rico Essentials Cotton DK Shade 02
Orange: Drops Muskat Mercerised cotton Colour 49
Yellow: Sirdar Cotton DK Shade 543
Green: Sirdar Cotton DK Shade 0532
Blue: Sirdar Cotton DK Shade 515
Indigo: Sirdar Cotton DK Shade 514
Purple: Sirdar Cotton DK Shade 512
I used about 10-25g of each colour for each hat. You can make about 4 hats with 100g balls.
Supplies:
3.5mm crochet hook
It would be good to use a running stitch marker. To do this use a piece of thread. Lay it over the first st of each row. It forms a running stitch up your work which you can then pull out when you have finished. It means you don’t have to re-attach a stitch marker each row. Projectarian’s Amigurumi Pro Tips has good instructions.
Finished Size:
To fit Heads…
Small size: less than 54cm
Medium size: 54-58cm
Large size: more than 58cm
Skills Used:
Crochet in the round, trebles, half trebles, stripes, working into slip stitches.
Extra Information:
There are 3 sizes of rainbow sunhat in this pattern!
To add stripes please use the new colour as the final slip stitch to close the row then carry on for the current round. The easiest way of working with all the loose ends is weaving them in as you work the round then you have less sewing to do at the end.
