Rainbow Trout
This particular breed of trout is distinguished by a broad, coral-colored stripe running along a lateral line from gills to tail, most vivid in breeding males.
Rainbow Trout is worked flat, with color A (the colorful back) seamed to color B (the pale underside) when both parts are completed. Stitches for both back and belly are joined in the round to work the tail. Spots are embroidered after stuffing. Fins are worked separately and seamed to body.
A graceful curve to his body is knit with short rows and makes it easy to visualize this trout swimming slowly in a clear, cold stream. Finished object is about 14” long and 4” wide.
Learn more about this wonderful animal and 24 others when you read the pages of a naturalist as she travels the world, documenting the animals she sees, and designing knitting patterns for each one. This book was a collaboration with my children who did the artwork.
