This beanie is an ideal first stranded colorwork project for the confident beginner. If you can knit a basic beanie in the round, you can knit this hat!

The pattern has directions for baby, child, adult S/M, and adult L/XL sizes. The main color requires one 50 g hank of Woolstok Worsted, and one mini skein of Woolstok Worsted for each of the contrast colors (6 total). Shown in rainbow colors and in the colors of the trans flag. I would love to see this knitted up in lots of pride flags!

The length of the hat is adjustable. Shown in a cropped version for wearing under your bike helmet or a slightly slouchy version.

The hat starts at the brim with twisted rib, progresses to plain stockinette and stranded colorwork, finishing in plain stockinette. No long floats! The pattern directions are written, and the colorwork section is shown in chart form. The chart is easy to read and a great introduction to reading a colorwork chart. The pattern is easily memorized and fun to knit.

I recommend US size 6 (4mm) needles for the ribbing, US size 8 (5 mm) for plain stockinette sections, and US size 9 (5.5 mm) for the stranded colorwork section, or sizes needed to obtain gauge. The gauge for the stockinette and stranded colorwork sections is 18 stitches to 4 inches (10 cm) after wet blocking.

Happy knitting!
