This hat is inspired by my love of the Pacific Northwest. For me, cloudy days and rainstorms are uplifting and beautiful. I created a motif celebrating those things. The hat features four lace-bordered umbrellas with garter stitch canopies. The seed stitch below the umbrellas reminds me of raindrops bouncing off pavement. And the lace squiggles separating the umbrellas look like rain coursing down a windowpane. Curl up somewhere warm and knit yourself a rainy day!

Yarn: Worsted weight, Size Small: approx. 135 yds (123 m); Size Medium: approx. 148 yds (135 m); Size Large: approx. 161 yds (147 m).

Shown in: Dream in Color Classy with Cashmere, colorway 480, Midnight Derby. Worsted weight, 200 yds per skein.

Needles: U.S. size 8 (5.0 mm) 16 in. (40.5 cm) circular needle; 1 set of U.S. size 8 (5.0 mm) double pointed needles.

Optional extra needles: U.S. Size 7 (4.5 mm) or U.S. Size 6 (4.0 mm) 16 in. (40.5 cm) circular needle for ribbing. I personally don’t use a smaller needle for ribbing, and the sample shown doesn’t use one, but I know a lot of knitters prefer to use a smaller ribbing needle.

Gauge: 24 stitches and 29 rounds in K1, P1 rib, worked in the round, unblocked and unstretched = 4” x 4” (10 cm x10 cm).

Notions: Locking stitch marker, tapestry needle.

Finished Measurements:
Height, with brim unrolled, 9.5” (24 cm). With brim folded up, 8” (20 cm).

Circumference, unstretched: Size Small = 14” (38 cm), Size Medium = 16” (43 cm), Size Large = 19” (51 cm). The hat is intended to be worn with 3-6” (7.5-15 cm) of negative ease.
Sizing—sizes fit the following head circumference: Small = 18-21” (46-53 cm), Medium = 20-23” (51-58 cm), Large = 23-26” (58-66 cm.)

Sample is Size Medium and shown on a 21” (53 cm) head.
