Raised Diamonds Cinched Tote
The Raised Diamonds Stitch that I utilize in this bag and several other designs I’ve created features a three-dimensional texture and pattern that grabs the eye and makes people ask, How did you do that? Unlike my previous purses, which close with a zipper, I wanted to design a bag with a sewing-free closure. Thus, this cinched tote was born.
I would rate this pattern Intermediate in difficulty because it involves working in several rows at a time to create the raised diamond design that stands out against the background of the other stitches. It takes 9 rows to complete the construction of the diamonds, so be patient and enjoy watching your diamonds come together. It’s a fun challenge with rewarding results! I’ve included large pictures with the instructions that I hope will give you visual examples to assist you in learning the new techniques.
You can use any yarn you would like. I have tested this pattern with Sinfonia (2 skeins of Teal) and also with Omega La Espiga Size 18 (3 skeins of Rose). Both purses turned out well. If you use a heavier yarn, adjust your hook size to fit your yarn. You will also need 8 1-inch steel rings to use a guides for the purse strap.
